 In early 1998, El Niño brought floods and landslides to many parts of Peru, leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless. One of the worst hit regions was surrounding the Ica river in Southern Peru. Clad in blue jeans and caterpillar boots, President Fujimori visited the town of San Jose de los Molinos to see the damage and to inspect the recovery effort.
